We released new version of our Moodle plugin 2.2.
It can be downloaded, as usually, from the Moodle plugin page.
In this version we did small fixes to work correctly with latest Moodle versions 2.7 and 2.8.
Also some bugs fixed.
For reference, the Moodle plug-in MyEducationPath allows to generate certificates of course completion for students of online courses and automates courses listing in the directory of MOOC and online courses.
Many students of MOOC and online courses require additional learning materials for their study. Some students want to know more on a subject, other students need to fill some gaps in their knowledge to complete a course.
This is why we launched new feature – book suggestion for courses in the directory.
On a course page we display list of related books for a subject. This is done automatically and some books can have a bit different subject.
Books are not suggested for all courses. Sometimes automatic program can not determine a course keywords correctly. However, we continue to improve the tool to have books suggested for any course in the directory.
See example of the course with books suggested – Pre-Calculus
MyEducationPath.com online courses and MOOC directory contains 11810 courses from 38 providers. Upcoming courses – 438 , Free online courses and MOOC – 5964, Always open (without a start date specified) – 8903.
Coursera is still the leader between MOOC providers. However, for the last year dozens of new MOOC providers were started and got their students. Coursera is not absolute leader any more. We can see this when analyse MyEducationPath.com usage. From new providers our users were most interested in Iversity, NovoED, FutureLearn.
Most popular search queries were history, Business, math, computer, health,
programming, java, excel, physics, finance, algebra,
Algorithms, statistics, accounting, web development, linear, algebra, Spanish, php, python, cs50 .
Among education paths most popular were programming education paths (software development, PHP programming, Java programming etc.)
The plugin “MyEducationPath” for LMS Moodle (moodle.org) was extended and new version released.
The plugin now can be used to generate certificates of course completion in the LMS Moodle.
After the upgrade there are 3 main functions:
- Publish a course created with Moodle in the online courses and MOOC directory;
- Issue certificates of course completion for students in a Moodle site;
- Getting a feedback from students about a course in form of comment and rating.
The plugin can be downloaded on the special page – MyEducationPath Moodle plugin .
Issuing certificate of course completion with this plugin has following benefits:
- a certificate can be printed
- a certificate is hosted on MyEducationPath.com and can be shared with social networks;
- a student can create an account on MyEducationPath.com and show his certificates in an Education passport (personal education history);
This software is built with using the API.

Now we are focused on creation the intelligence system of courses management. We aim to generate relationships between courses automatically. Every course from the directory can be mapped to other courses as an alternative or a prerequisite or s similar subject course etc.
Such type of relationships between courses will be used to generate personal education path automatically and individually for every online student.
For now we release one piece of this work. It is “See also” listing for a course.
On a course description page we will display the list of most relevant courses related to the courses. But not exact alternatives as we have different listing for a course alternatives.
To see how it works just open courses in the directory. Now this function will work for more then half of courses in the directory.
We continue experimenting with ways to search MOOCs by our users. Today we launch brand new tool – MOOC Tags Cloud.
There are 2 views for this tool – flat tags cloud and 3D tags cloud.
We expect this tool must become popular. If you like it then share with your social networks with your friends!
And, as a bonus! We created nice 3d MOOC Providers Cloud. It is amazing, isn’t it!
For last two years many MOOC aggregators appeared. All of them are just flat list of courses. Only some of them allow filtering and search.
We also have the list of MOOCs and online courses (which is biggest, by the way). However, we decided to create something new. Some new interface to search courses more intuitively.
This is why we created MOOC Calendar. On our opinion, calendar view is best for such cases. More then half of online courses, especially MOOCs, have start date defined. alendar view is the best for such courses finding.
FutureLearn.com just launched and now has been added to our listing.
There are 20 courses offered by this provider. Now our users can comment and rate courses, add to personal education path and calendar, store in the education passport after a courses completing.
For last two weeks we added 3 new MOOC providers to our directory.
Totally 56 new MOOCs and online courses.
Closest upcoming courses from new addedare:
Summary of our listings at the moment.
We have 32 course and MOOC providers and 9199 courses.
Thousands of people who completed MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) think about possibility to get college credits for new knowledge.
MOOC providers usually don’t do certification and it is not possible to earn credits. For example, Coursera help says it is not possible. However, there are independent organizations who can assign credits based on examinations. Such examination can be called “Get credit for what you already know”.
Recently, we launched the functionality to connect certification exams to MOOCs to find easy relevant exams.
Now we created new tool to see all relevant exams for all MOOC provider courses on one page.
The tool is there – Find certification exams for MOOCs and online courses.
Other interesting tool we launched recently is alternatives listing of courses of a specified provider. See there Find alternatives to MOOCs and online courses.
And the last one new tool is the tool to find courses to prepare to certification exams. It does reverse work to the first tool. Prepare to certification exams using MOOCs and online courses.
