Review of the course Understanding the Origins of Crime
Back to the courseAaron Sell discusses the origins of crime from the viewpoint of a biologist. It is a rather curious approach that led to many excited discussions in the forums. I personally enjoyed his references to numerous case studies of the behaviors of several cultures around the world. It got me thinking as to the various factors that have led to the evolution of societal behavior in my part of the world. Throughout the course, Aaron Sell repeats that we can steer away from destructive or negative behaviors by understanding where certain inclinations may stem from. The material is interesting, the lecturer engaging, and I found myself making connections between the materials taught in this course and that in courses such as Foundations of Psychology and Becoming Human: Anthropology.
