Review of the course Statistics One

The “Statistics One” course is taught by Andrew Conway, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Princeton University. This week’s tasks included viewing three video lectures (each divided into either 2 or 3 segments), and completing an assignment and a quiz. I also watched a course introduction video. Here are my thoughts on the week 1 activities:
Introduction (14:33 mins): Conway’s goal is to take a conceptual approach instead of a mathematical approach towards learning stats (i.e., more about the why than the how). Interestingly, he also said that a goal is to have the highest retention rate on Coursera. I guess the people at Coursera are worried about the 25% retention rate for MOOCs. (BTW, over 75,000 people have reportedly signed-up for this stats course.) While watching the video, I found that Conway spoke a bit slow for me. After speeding the video up to 1.25x speed, I was still able to follow and understand him without any difficulty. Side benefit: the video lectures go by much faster!
