eClasses.org 200 Computer Sciences Database EClasses.Org

Dreamweaver has the ability to add PHP or ASP code to your pages that lets them communicate with a database. Dreamweaver code can display dynamic data from the database on a Web page. It can also use forms to add data to the database or to update the data that is already there. Dreamweaver can also create login pages that restrict access to administrative pages. A Web designer can use Dreamweaver to create dynamic pages by completing simple dialog boxes. Its not necessary to know how to write the code.Knowing how to use the dynamic functions of Dreamweaver opens up an whole new realm of possibilities in Web design. You can display a product catalog with list and display pages, and provide a backend for the site owners to update the product information themselves. Using data driven Web pages can save a countless hours in the creation and maintenance of a Web site. For instance, you could have a site on golf courses in Southern California. If you were building a static site, the site would would have hundreds of pages. If there were 400 courses, you would need a information page for each one, and also several list pages that listed courses in different areas. However, if you build this site with a database, you would have a home page, where the visitor could select the area he wanted to know about. A list page that listed golf courses in the chosen area, and page that listed the details about the particular course the visitor chose on the list page. Thats 3 pages, instead of over 400. You can do other things with databases, as well. You can create forms for Web visitors to fill out. They can RSVP to event invitations and choose their meal preference or T-Shirt size. They can add items to their wish lists or vote on an important issue. The possibilities are endless. Once you see how easy this is to do, youll be finding ways to use it in almost every site you build.

eClasses.org 200 Adobe Edge Animate EClasses.Org

Until the most recent versions of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, Web designers relied on Adobe Flash and other application-development programs for creating animated and interactive Websites. While this approach served us well for many years, it had its share of drawbacks and limitations not the least of them being forcing site visitors to download huge embedded files and rely on various plugins Flash Player, for example to play the content. Now, by combining HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, we can create much of our animations and interactivity with browser-compatible code, which downloads and processes much faster than embedded animations and applications. The problem with this approach is that, to create sophisticated animations and interactivity, you need to be fairly proficient at composing at least three types of Web programming languages. And that’s where Adobe Edge Animate comes in. Edge Animate provides a what-you-see-is-what-you-get WYSIWIG interface, where you layout your animations and interactivity on a stage and timeline, and Edge Animate in turn creates all the necessary code. Edge Animate eliminates a lot of the trial-and-error and research, making creating the animated and interactive sections of your pages much less time-consuming, easier, and less frustrating.

eClasses.org 240 Adobve Muse EClasses.Org

Many people, not just Web designers and Web developers, want or need to create Websites, but few have the desire or the time to learn how. Whether you hand-code write the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from scratch, typing each line of code manually, one at a time, or whether you use a sophisticated Web design program such as Adobe Dreamweaver, both methods are complicated and take some time to learn unless you use a what-you-see-is-what-you-get WYSIWYG design program, such as Adobe Muse, that is. Muse lets you create professional-grade Web pages and Websites without having to know how to or having to compose HTML or any other code. Muse makes each step of the design process, from planning to publishing, easy. In the planning stage, for instance, you layout your site’s basic structure with Muse’s master pages, a concept Adobe borrowed from hardcopy page layout, or desktop publishing, programs, such as Indesign. In the design phase, Muse does all the heavy lifting. All you do is place your site elements text, graphics, photos, digital video, menus, photograph galleries, and so on on your pages, and Muse does the rest. This exciting new design program does everything from creating links and menus automatically to resizing images and making sure content fits properly on various-size screens the smallest smartphones displays, tablet screens, and huge, high-definition desktop computer monitors. Adobe Muse helps non-professional Web designers create professional-looking sites quickly and economically, and it provides professional designers a utility for performing their craft without a lot of tedious, hard-to-learn, programming.

eClasses.org 240 CSS3 EClasses.Org

Several years ago, cascading style sheets CSS revolutionized Web design. CSS freed Web designers from depending on woefully inadequate HTML tables to create highly stylized Web pages. It provided us with the means to format and reformat multiple pages from one single set of styles, thereby liberatingus from the tedious task of formatting one page at a time. Enter CSS3, the next generation of Web design. Special effects, animations, transitions, gradients - all the content weve traditionally fallen back on graphics and animation software to achieve are now at our fingertips through CSS code. CSS3, the first revision to cascading style sheets since the advent of handheld smartphones and tablets, is here, now, ready for prime time.
