Self-organized Online Education Groups
#1
Hi All,

We start to work on new features - the set of tools to support self-organized online education groups.
It will be for persons who wants to learn something outside of traditional higher education system using e-Learning (MOOC, online courses etc).
Such people can join together in groups to study something.
In groups, users can discuss what to study, in which order , where to find education materials , what online courses to use and what not etc.

We plan to create following tools/features:
  • group discussions (aka forum)
  • group calendar to plan events and meeting, including offline events
  • group recomendations list for courses/lections , education materials.
  • group progress tracking - to allow member to show what they already learned inside a group
  • group milestones to motivate group members
we expect most attention of groups will be focused on courses registered in our directory.

We need your feedback and thoughts on this. What do you think?
Ideas?

No. We will not do this. It is too difficult and there are many good solutions for this.
We will create the scheduler to plan group calls with Skype or Google Hangout or anything you want. So plannig will be with the MyEducationPath.com but a call will be done with any external services. It must work good

An update on this.
We almost completed the developement, in 2 weeks we will launch the beta version of the tool.

How will it work.
  • Someone creates a group . Groups can be free to access or private with moderated membership
  • A group creator invites members to the group or new members can find a group in the listing and join
  • Group members use the Forum to discuss the target and the plan of their learning.
  • Some member can have a role of adviser and will help to define correct steps of learning (if group members can find such adviser, of course)
  • Group members discuss and define Challenges - steps of learning to achieve the Target
  • Group members discuss and define resources - web sites and pages with learning materials
  • Group members suggest and discuss events and a group administrator approve them
  • Events can be: meetingm video call (skype etc), voice call, web chat etc. An event description will include information about what technology to use and how to take part in the event
  • For first time we will not intergare third party services into the site. All virtual meetings will be done with external services only.
  • Each member of a group can check what challenges are complete and what not. this will help to understand who really works and who not and motivate members.
