One Health, One Medicine: A Global Health Approach is a course for anyone interested in health, including: medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, life sciences, environmental health, health management and international health. The One Health One Medicine concept is changing the way we perceive and tackle the world’s health problems. This course is geared toward premedical and preveterinary medical students, as well as anyone interested in public health and MPH studies. This eight-week course is a must for anyone interested in the ways people, animals, and the environment interact with each other, affecting the health of each other. The course is divided into seven sections: History of Medicine Introduction to the One Health One Medicine Concept Emerging Infectious Diseases Zoonotic Diseases Food Safety Environmental Health International Health Time commitments: Students will be expected to complete the course within an eight week block of time. The course is comprised of seven sections which can be completed in weekly blocks requiring two hours of contact time per week. At the end of the seven modules, there are also discussions and case studies to prepare and submit which can be completed within the eight (final) week of the course. The materials in this resource represent a curriculum for teaching effective patient communication to dentistry students. These techniques could be useful for other healthcare providers, as well: medical students, nursing students, public health providers, and in-practice health care providers. There are two main types of materials here: performance keys and videos. Performance Keys are text documents that articulate key patient interaction skills, and give examples of more and less effective techniques. SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION is an online course for public health, healthcare, and emergency preparedness and response professionals. SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION is a framework of six strategies for achieving and maintaining a high level of disaster health and well being. “Disaster health” was introduced as a concept and discipline in Homeland Security Presidential Directive-21 (HSPD-21). SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION defines “disaster health” as, “Maximal safety in situations of threat, optimal function in situations of high stress, and effective action in response to emergencies, disasters, and extreme events.” To remain congruent with HSPD-21, SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION integrates elements of disaster medical care, public health, and behavioral health within a single framework. This course is dually focused on disaster responders and the disaster survivors they serve. As a result, the framework also introduces two skill sets: a "PREPARE" skill set focused on responders, and a "RESPOND" skill set focused on support for survivors.
