本课程针对普通人普及常见的急救和自救的知识和技能，让学习者可以在危急时刻进行急救，或许不够规范甚至不能完成治疗，但能起基础的救护作用，至少能争取救助的时间，从而增加自己、家人或其他人的生存机会。这些应该全民普及的急救技能不仅反映了公民素质，更表现了对生命的尊重和热爱，是尊重生存权的体现。
