Obesity is a global epidemic. As the world gets fatter, we begin to see its impact across many aspects of day-to-day life.

One Health, One Medicine: A Global Health Approach is a course for anyone interested in health, including: medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, life sciences, environmental health, health management and international health. The One Health One Medicine concept is changing the way we perceive and tackle the world’s health problems. This course is geared toward premedical and preveterinary medical students, as well as anyone interested in public health and MPH studies. This eight-week course is a must for anyone interested in the ways people, animals, and the environment interact with each other, affecting the health of each other. The course is divided into seven sections: History of Medicine Introduction to the One Health One Medicine Concept Emerging Infectious Diseases Zoonotic Diseases Food Safety Environmental Health International Health Time commitments: Students will be expected to complete the course within an eight week block of time. The course is comprised of seven sections which can be completed in weekly blocks requiring two hours of contact time per week. At the end of the seven modules, there are also discussions and case studies to prepare and submit which can be completed within the eight (final) week of the course. This cutting-edge course, taught by Dr Satesh Bidaisee, an associate professor from St. George's University Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, will identify all areas of global health issues that require human and veterinary applications for solutions. St. George's University with its Schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and Graduate Studies Programs focuses on the One Health One Medicine approach in meeting the global health needs.

The materials in this resource represent a curriculum for teaching effective patient communication to dentistry students. These techniques could be useful for other healthcare providers, as well: medical students, nursing students, public health providers, and in-practice health care providers. There are two main types of materials here: performance keys and videos. Performance Keys are text documents that articulate key patient interaction skills, and give examples of more and less effective techniques. The videos in this resource are staged interactions between a faculty member and a standardized patient. There are two versions of each interaction given - one that follows the performance keys, and one that does not. The differences in patient responsiveness, patient-provider rapport, and the resulting treatment plan are dramatic. For all of the bodies attached to the many great minds that walk the Institute's halls, in the work that goes on at MIT the body is present as an object of study, but is all but unrecognized as an important dimension of our intelligence and experience. Yet the body is the basis of our experience in the world; it is the very foundation on which cognitive intelligence is built. Using the MIT gymnastics gym as our laboratory, the Physical Intelligence activity will take an innovative, hands-on approach to explore the kinesthetic intelligence of the body as applicable to a wide range of disciplines. Via exercises, activities, readings and discussions designed to excavate our physical experience, we will not only develop balance, agility, flexibility and strength, but a deep appreciation for the inherent unity of mind and body that suggests physical intelligence as a powerful complement to cognitive intelligence.

SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION is an online course for public health, healthcare, and emergency preparedness and response professionals. SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION is a framework of six strategies for achieving and maintaining a high level of disaster health and well being. “Disaster health” was introduced as a concept and discipline in Homeland Security Presidential Directive-21 (HSPD-21). SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION defines “disaster health” as, “Maximal safety in situations of threat, optimal function in situations of high stress, and effective action in response to emergencies, disasters, and extreme events.” To remain congruent with HSPD-21, SAFETY, FUNCTION, ACTION integrates elements of disaster medical care, public health, and behavioral health within a single framework. This course is dually focused on disaster responders and the disaster survivors they serve. As a result, the framework also introduces two skill sets: a "PREPARE" skill set focused on responders, and a "RESPOND" skill set focused on support for survivors.

The purpose of this class is to tell you something about our Tech Dinghy and how to sail it. This OCW site is arranged as a series of skills, explained both with lecture notes and videos. Please do not think of these skill checks as tests, but instead, as measures of your understanding of our sport. We don't expect perfection from our beginners, but only that our members be able to safely handle the boats and themselves on the Charles. For those who wish it, there will be much more that can be learned about other boats and other waters, but what can be learned here will provide the basis to build on. Public Health focuses on the health of entire populations, fighting disease on a massive scale.

This course will thoroughly educate the successful student with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a certified beginning SCUBA diver. The prerequisite for the course is passing the MIT SCUBA swim test and demonstrating a "comfort level" in the water. At the end of the class, students will attempt to pass the certification exam to become certified divers. The class is taught in two parts each week: a classroom session and a pool session. The classroom sessions along with the reading material will provide the student with the knowledge necessary to pass the written exam. At the pool, the water skills are taught in progressions that build on the previous skills, making the difficult skills seem easy.
